If you have not seen this expose, you should check it out right now. We have shopped at Whole Foods before, but since none are near us, we do not really shop there. After seeing this, we are glad we dont.
As consumers we must be vigilant on everything we buy and put into our bodies these days, no matter what store you have purchased them from. This is a perfect example. Whole Foods has been selling "California Blend" frozen vegetables, only to read the back of the packaging to find out the food came from China. Whole Foods countered saying the food is organic, but no agency can verify this. China has had a long history of "additives" in food and excess use of pesticides.
A close look at other Whole Foods products you might be purchasing reveal:
Creamy Peanut Butter - made in China
Crunchy Peanut Butter - made in China
Cashew Butter - made in China
Organic Peanut Butter - made in China
Organic Pumpkin Seeds - made in China & Mexico
Raw Pine Nuts - made in China
Pepitas - made in China
Various Frozen Vegetable Packages - about 40% made in China
Many of Whole Foods organic and non organic products selling peanut butter made in China. Even seeds and nuts like pine nuts and pumpkin seeds made in China. Not all of Whole Foods frozen vegetables are made in China, but read the back of the packages because 40% of their frozen vegetables are made in China.
I think we are all wondering... how can we eat healthy in 2012? GOOD QUESTION!
